Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)

Texas Neurology offers Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) from a Registered and Licensed Dietitian to improve disease symptoms and quality of life for many of its patients.

MNT provides for an assessment of a patient’s nutritional status, evidence-based interventions to address the patient’s nutritional health, as well as monitoring and follow-up on a patient’s progress. The RD works with you to address issues ranging from weight loss to specific diets for particular medical conditions through behavioral and lifestyle changes required to impact long-term eating habits and health.

Following are some of the conditions commonly addressed in an MNT consultation:

  • Weight Management
  • Hypertension
  • Migraines
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Hydration Management
  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • GI Disorders (IBS, Celiac, Gastroparesis, etc)

In addition to dietary disease management, an RD may also provide education on general nutrition, nutrient-drug interactions, personalized diet plans, grocery lists, and practical planning for day-to-day dietary success.

Medical Nutrition Therapy includes:

  • Performing a comprehensive nutrition assessment determining the nutrition diagnosis;
  • Planning and implementing a nutrition intervention using evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines;
  • Monitoring and evaluating an individual’s progress over subsequent visits with the RD.
